A Happy Heart

" A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit."

Ugh, work, stress, people. Some day's it's hard to keep a smile on one's face. In those frustrating everyday moments when you feel rushed, out of control, or people just do dumb things how do you find a happy moment?

Proverbs tells us that a happy heart can make one cheerful and heartache crushes the spirit, but how can you find that cheery grin? I believe it's a choice. When that crazy driver cuts you off or a coworker is griping or saying unkind things towards you, you make a choice. You can give that frustrating honk or roll your eyes in disgust. Maybe even grumble under your breath. Or you can give a simple smile and move on.

Not knowing the other person's circumstances that might have made them distracted or caused them to say unkind things, a smile could change their entire day around. In our everyday moments a smile can offer relief, hope, and grace needed to continue on.

Just maybe the point in Proverbs is that a smile is a result of our inner being. A happy heart that is content and at peace knowing God has only the best for them. When we respond with a smile we are showing others that peace, inviting them to also find the inner joy we have with God.

Today when the stresses pile on and people do frustrating things, remember that smile and that God has given you peace. Be contagious and smile on.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 "So encourage each other and give each other strength, just as you are doing now."
