ABC’s of Faith-- eXistence

“You have not seen Christ, but still you love him. You cannot see him now, but you believe in him. So you are filled with a joy that cannot be explained, a joy full of glory. And you are receiving the goal of your faith—the salvation of your souls.” 1 Peter 1:8-9

A story is told of a professor trying to prove God is not real. He challenges his students to look at science. Science says you have five senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. But when it comes to God you can’t see Him, you can’t physically touch Him, you cannot hear Him, and you have never tasted or smelled Him, so according to science God does not exist.

A young Christian stands up to speak and begins challenging the professor with science. Light and dark, heat and cold, life and death. He goes on to say that even evolution is flawed because we have not seen it take place. His final thought is what puts God’s existence in each student’s mind. He asks each student in the class. "Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor's brain? Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain...felt the professor's brain, touched or smelt the professor's brain?" No one appears to have done so. The Christian shakes his head sadly. "It appears no-one here has had any sensory perception of the professor's brain whatsoever. Well, according to the rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science, I DECLARE that the professor has no brain." - http://www.patrish.com/atheist.html (full story)

This story helps us see that faith is believing in the existence of God when we can’t physically see, hear, or touch Him. We know He exists out of love and trust of what we have been taught in scripture. Just because we can’t prove God is real through the worlds eyes or science doesn’t mean He does not exist. We turn on light switches each day and know there will be light, but we don’t see the electricity that makes them run. The Bible says when we believe and have faith in something we cannot see we will have immeasurable joy and from that faith we will see salvation. For me though I do see and hear God each day. I see it in my family, in the trees and nature that surrounds my home. I hear God in the melodies of the birds and the laughter of my family. God is around we just have to have faith in His existence and believe. When we do He has promised to be with us and to care for us in all we do and to be by our side.
