Bible Reading-Grow in The Lord

" As newborn babies want milk, you should want the pure and simple teaching. By it you can mature in your salvation," 1 Peter 2:2

Every time I see the phrase 'Grow in the Lord' or something like it, I'm reminded of a song I learned as a child in church and one that was taught to my children. It's a catchy action song that goes, "Read your Bible, pray every day and you'll grow, grow, grow...." We repeat the words grow, grow, grow starting low to the floor and grow standing tall. The next part goes, "Neglect your Bible, forget to pray and you'll shrink, shrink, shrink...." This goes on until the kids are back on the floor.

As little kids this is a fun song because of the actions but the words carry a simple deep truth they learn without realizing it. When we spend time reading through Bible stories, Bible promises, Bible teachings we will grow in Jesus. We will learn of His love, His goodness, His grace. We become stronger Christians and better people. We can learn to see Jesus' hand in all that surrounds us and learn faith and hope. Just like plants rooted in deep soil, we can grow, grow, grow.

But when we neglect the Bible or our devotional time with Jesus. When we don't pray and let worldly things distract us, we open the door to Satan and he fills our hearts with anger, despair and a selfish attitude. Then, like a plant under watered and unloved we too will shrivel up and die without hope of eternity with Jesus.

Let's read our Bible and grow every day!
