Face to Face

“We should live like that while we wait for our great hope and the coming of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” -Titus 2:13

One of the biggest problems with society is that we’ve lost face time with others. Since the invention of texting it seems that has become the norm for almost all communication, especially with our younger generation.

There are several problems that come with texting more than actual face to face conversations. One of the main problems is expression is lost with just words. Yes, the emojis help and are used, but when you are actually talking with someone you are able to see the other person’s expressions and hear their tone. Tone is important. The person could be just fine and happy but with a simple text you can misread what they’re saying and hear it the way you would hear it. This, many times, cause undo fights and arguments. And when texting we are losing how to use proper punctuation which also changes an entire sentence.

Another thing lost is the way of talking properly. With the use of BRB, NVM, IDK, RN, LOL, TTYL and so many more it’s no wonder anyone can understand each other at all.

And when face to face conversation occurs sentences become very short between each other or responses very one worded. One of my favorite things to see is when two people are next to each other and they would still rather text each other than talk.

I’m not saying all texting is bad, I use it myself many times. But when it comes down to an actual conversation, I usually would rather talk face to face with that person (another good thing smart phones have- FaceTime). Or if I have to go old school, I like to use good old phone calls to hear their voice.

Face to face is just so much better when we’re able to hear the conversation. To see the person, see their expressions, hear their voice. Reading the words have a time and place but the interaction can mean so much more. Especially when a loved one has passed away and you no longer can hear their voice. My grandmother passed away several years ago now and I miss our face to face time and conversations. She is one I wouldn’t want to text and I long for Jesus’ return when I can see her face to face again.

There is someone else who longs to see us face to face. To speak to us, to see our smiles as we can also see His smiling face, Jesus. Since creation many have seen Jesus, some God and there were a couple who walked with our Creator. It’s been a long time since face to face contact with Jesus and we can only read the words in scripture. There it is as Jesus talking to us as we read the text messages. And the message is simple. ‘If you love me keep my commandments.’ ‘Follow me.’ ‘God make disciples.’ And, ‘I will come again.’

Jesus is coming again, He is coming to take us to live with Him, to not only live in our hearts and minds but to see Him face to face. What a glorious day this will be. When we choose Jesus, daily pray and talk with Jesus the one who has been by our side helping, guiding, protecting and forgiving. Jesus, the one who died for your sins and mine. I look forward to that day when we can see Jesus face to face, how about you?
