“Now may the Lord of peace give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” -2 Thessalonians 3:16
I have three wonderful children whom I love with all my heart, but there have been many days where my home has not been at peace. Like all siblings they argue and disagree most days and when there’s no fighting we are busy running around here and there doing this or that for a school project or lesson or the many household things to keep a household going. As my children have grown throughout their stages in life we too have been at odds and tears have been shed and some yelling has gone on (no, I’m not a perfect mom). At times I have felt like the disciples on the boat that stormy night being tossed about by the crashing waves. I long to hear Jesus say, ‘Peace be still’. Then the moment comes, a stillness in my home where all three of my children are playing quietly together. I have that quiet moment of awe as a smile crosses my face. Even if only for a moment, we are at peace.
The Lord does come to each of our lives when we follow Him, and He does bring peace. He is a God of peace and wants us all to have that calm in our busy lives. Not only for a moment, but at all times. I know my kids will always find something to fight about and we will always have errands to run and a household to take care of, but I also know when I allow God into our home, those moments of peace will come even in our most hectic times. I can have full confidence, even if I feel out of control, He is in control and that can bring peace.
