"Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be satisfied with what you have. God has said, “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you.” -Hebrews 13:5
Have you ever been asked 'If you had a million dollars what would you do?' Take a moment to come up with some answers. You have debt, your bills are piling up, you could use a new car. Would you see that money as a way to fix your financial troubles or as a way to live a life of a millionaire? Big house, expensive cars, exotic vacations, a way to live like the rich of the world.
I will admit I wouldn't mind having a little extra money to live a little more comfortably then some of our financial stresses but a million dollars, what would I do? My husband and I have talked about this and we have, of course, said the basics, get out of debt, get our kids through collage, maybe save some, pay off the house but what about the rest? We both agreed no, if we had extra money to burn we would help our church, help less privileged children get through a good education, help our families and if we ran out of money we would do what we've always been doing all along, trust God. We would still spend some money on us of course but we both feel that too much money can corrupt a person and they too easily can become distracted by the world's bells and whistles and forget that God is the source of all things.
God is on the move in each of our lives. He has told us in scripture that He will provide all our needs when we need them. The Israelites were fed by manna from Heaven, ravens brought food to Elijah when he was in hiding. The lilies and birds are taken care of, so of course God will take care of us too.
Each day my family has food, there is gas in the vehicles, our bills get paid and our family is happy and healthy. No amount of money can replace what God daily provides for us. A million dollars might be nice in theory but the promise that God will never leave us and that the Creator of this world cares so much for me outweighs the millions dollars.
