“And so we know the love that God has for us, and we trust that love. God is love. Those who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.” -1 John 4:16
Picture with me the fall season. Trees are changing to vibrant oranges, yellows, and reds. Now, picture those trees by a lake, maybe on a hillside. The air is still and the sky is blue and the lake is as clear as glass. Looking on can you see the beautiful reflection of those fall trees off the water? I imagine something that is peaceful and a place I’d like to visit.
How about your reflection? Each day we, at least, check out our reflection in a mirror in our home. We do our hair, look at the clothes we are wearing, girls do their make-up. While we are out we check our reflection in bathrooms while we wash our hands or in a department store trying on clothes. Usually we walk away satisfied with how we look, and go about our day. On occasion we think we look awful and either spend forever trying to fix the problem or eventually walking away dealing with it the way it is.
Have you ever stopped to think that your attitude is like a mirror and how you walk around does reflect to others? If you’re in a bad mood your facial expressions, actions, and words tell the world you're mad and at times that bad mood can reflect to someone else, putting them in a bad mood. In turn when you’re joyful and happy it will also reflect to others and become contagious and people enjoy being around you.
There is one more reflection I want to talk about though. Ephesians 5:1 says we need to be imitators of God. If God is a God of love and Jesus walked this earth with understanding and compassion, shouldn’t we mirror that image? What we reflect to others can either show them God or turn them away from God.
Remember that peaceful lake and beautiful reflection of the trees? God created all of that and He created you and me. I believe we all can show a little bit of heaven’s reflection when we are out and about bringing peace or at least a smile to others just like the lake does. Have a beautiful day!
