Jesus, The Sweetest Name of All

Isaiah 9:6 – “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

One of the many things I enjoyed when my children were little was singing to them. Often when they were having a hard time falling asleep, I would snuggle next to them and sing softly. My go to songs were usually songs they had been learning in cradle roll but there were a few other favorites of mine that I would sing to them praising Jesus and His love for us.

Music can speak volumes to everyone good and bad. I have found when I am in a cleaning mood or, my daughter, when she’s in her exercise mode, the more upbeat fast paced songs seem to get the jobs done. When I am tired and want to fall asleep myself or just relax, I find the quieter Christian music has a calming effect. Without realizing it, music molds our minds and so many artists know that, and some have used their influence not for the good while others use their talent to uplift and praise God. I’m not here to debate your choice of music, just to share what I have learned and hope you take time to really reflect on the choices of music you make and how they affect you and those around you.

For now, today, I am going to once again break down a favorite song of mine that I sang to my children and at times even sing it in my mind when I am having a hard time falling asleep. Jesus, You’re the Sweetest Name of All.

Jesus, You're the sweetest name of all- The Good Shepherd, The Light of the World, The Living Water, The Bread of Life, The Way, Truth, and Life, The Lamb of God. The gospel of John shares many wonderful names of Jesus and who He wants to be in our lives. It’s easy to praise our Lord when we think of all the wonderful things, He has done for us in our lives and how He takes care of us. He took on our sins so we would be sinless and could live with Him, He truly has the sweetest name of all.

Jesus, You always hear me when I call- Psalm 116:1, “I love the Lord, because he listens to my prayers for help.” This is a promise we have from Jesus, no matter if we’re sad, hurt, happy, excited or whatever we are feeling. When we call to Jesus, He listens, He supports, He gives us the answers we need for whatever circumstances we are in. Night or day we can call to Jesus and He helps and is here for us.

Oh, Jesus, You pick me up each time I fall- Psalm 37:23-24, “When people’s steps follow the Lord, God is pleased with their ways. If they stumble, they will not fall, because the Lord holds their hand.” There is no doubt we will fall more than once, we are human. But the promise we have can help us overcome our temptations and help keep us from falling down the same way again. When we keep Jesus in our life, we can be assured His hand will always be there to help us back up from our fall and help keep us from falling again. The key is to hold onto His hand and trust Him leading in our life.

You're the sweetest, sweetest name of all

Jesus, how I love to praise Your name- Isaiah 25:1, “Lord, you are my God. I honor you and praise you, because you have done amazing things. You have always done what you said you would do; you have done what you planned long ago.” Just like the wonderful names we can call Jesus; we need to praise Him too. He has done so much for us, given up everything for us so we can be restored with God our Creator, and will move heaven and earth to keep us in His care. He came to seek and save us and for that I will forever want to praise His name.

Jesus, you're still the first, the last, the same- Revelation 4:8b, 11, ““Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty. He was, he is, and he is coming.” “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, because you made all things. Everything existed and was made, because you wanted it.” This really speaks what needs to be said, the Lord never changes from creation to salvation, we can praise His name for who He is, and who He will always be.

Oh, Jesus, You died and took away my shame- 1 Peter 2:24, “Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross so we would stop living for sin and start living for what is right. And you are healed because of his wounds.” Jesus’ goal on this earth was to restore man to God after sin had come into this world. The only way to do that was on the cross and He didn’t hesitate to do that for us because of His love for us. The punishment we deserved He took and that is why I praise Him and His name.

You're the sweetest, sweetest name of all

Jesus, You're the soon and coming King- Revelation 19:13, 16, “He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. On his robe and on his upper leg was written this name: king of kings and lord of lords.” Jesus sits at the right hand of God now but soon He will come again as our King and save us from this world of hate and sin. He is our King, yet we are called part of His family, royal and cleansed from this world when we choose Jesus. His name is wonderful and worthy of praise.

Jesus, we need the love that You can bring- John 15:9, “I loved you as the Father loved me. Now remain in my love.” Because Jesus loves us, He came to save us and no matter how far we fall, He still loves us and wants us to be part of His life. He will give us unconditional love, we just need to go to Him, trust Him and have faith He is and always be in our lives.

Oh, Jesus, we lift our voices up and sing- Psalm 96:1-4, “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord and praise his name; every day tell how he saves us. Tell the nations of his glory; tell all peoples the miracles he does, because the Lord is great; he should be praised at all times.” It’s that simple, sing to Jesus, lift your voices up in praise. He is worthy, He is Holy, He is our God, Savior and He cares for you and me. Praise Him, seek Him, follow Him and He truly will become the sweetest name of all.
