Never Leave Home Without…

Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Whenever anyone leaves their home, they have a few basic things that they need to get them through their outing. Have you stepped out your door and taken a few moments saying, “Keys, wallet, phone, purse, check? Okay we're good to go.” For women we may have a ‘few’ extra things in our purse when we leave the house but for everyone, we need those few essentials. As Christians there are some things we can keep in mind when we leave our homes with our essentials that can help be reminders of how Jesus wants us to be as Christians or promises we have as Christians.

Cell Phone- Nowadays this has become our lifestyle because so much can be done on phones. Most importantly cell phones help us communicate with each other when out and about. We are promised a way to communicate with God when at home or out and about. Prayer is our link to Jesus, and He is here listening and will help us when we need anything.

-Jeremiah 29:12-13

Keys- We need keys to drive our cars, unlock our homes, get into our place of business. When you've locked yourself out of your home or car it can be unsettling, and one can feel helpless. Faith is the key that unlocks the door to something much greater than our homes and cars. Without faith we can feel stuck and helpless. Like we need keys to get through our days, faith is imperative to survive each day. -Hebrews 11:6

Driver’s License- Our identification is very important. We should have it when we're driving, it helps us at times when purchasing items, medication, and for seniors it helps them with benefits. Identification tells others who we are if we can't speak. When we choose Jesus our identification with Him gives us far greater benefits. A new identity as a child of God, heir to His Kingdom and the promise of eternal life. Claiming Jesus in my life tells others that I am a Christian and with that identification I know I should think about all my words and actions not only at home but how I react went out of my home. We are one of God children.

-Romans 8:16-17

Money or Debit Card- It seems the only way to obtain most things in life is by making purchases, right? Well, we need money for that. Money can remind us that these are only earthly things bound to stay on this earth. Yes, money is needed to exist, but we need to remember to store up our treasures in Heaven too. Matthew 6:21

Sunglasses- These are wonderful when the sun is bright, and you need to see around you. The dark of the lenses helps keep the sunshine from being too bright for our eyes and creates a dimmer light so that we can see around us more easily. These can help us remember to look through each day as Jesus would. Instead of being blinded by all the terrible things around us or how people can act we should try to see them in a different light, with more love, compassion, and kindness as Jesus sees us all. -Philippians 2:1-8

Hand Lotion- Let's remember to add a drop of lotion in our lives and put a little softness in our days and how we may react to certain situations. -Proverbs 15:1

Lipstick or Chapstick- Everyone needs a little touch up now and then and dry lips can really be bothersome. Let's remember to go about our day with praise and thanksgiving on our lips instead of bringing others down. Psalm 34:1

It's easy to walk out the door with our needed items to go through the day. We tend to go about the hours letting little things get to us, letting our emotions control us, and just get so busy that we don't stop to smell the roses or stop to praise God. Then we get home and toss it all on the counter or table until we need it again the next time we leave the house. Let's not toss God aside the same way but use each day He's given us to serve Him and be a light for Him to those around us.

When it comes to reading the Bible we may all have the same story whether a seasoned Christian or a new Christian. We sit down and decide to read the Bible through in a year cover to cover or just begin at the beginning and decide to read through the pages from Genesis to Revelation. You start out great as you read through Genesis and Exodus, but somewhere in Leviticus or Numbers, you start to get bogged down in details you don't quite understand. And by the time you hit Deuteronomy, you are done. Although the Bible is God-breathed and here for us to teach, guide, comfort, rebuke, praise and so much more, if we lose interest from the start we tend to find it hard to pick up and read again for any length of time. Maybe it's time to change our approach. First we need to recognize the Bible is not like any other book and is not meant to be read from front to back. When we see the Bible as a library we may feel different about our approach to reading it. There's history sections, wisdom literature, poetry, prophecy, gospels, epistles, and some books have many genres. So, now you can begin with books of the Bible that you know will draw you in and work your way through as we have been. Find what fits your life and take it as if you were reading through your own personal library. Knowing where to start can help immensely. As you make your way through Scripture, you’ll discover the assurance, strength, and wisdom that only come from immersing yourself in God’s Word. Today let's continue our study through 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12.
