Ripples of Faith & Hope

Psalm 31:24 “Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the Lord.”

Have you ever thrown a stone or rock into a lake or river? Maybe you’ve watched someone else thrown them in. My son is one who likes to do that whenever we’re by a body of water. For him the bigger the rock the happier he is.

What happens next is really interesting because when we throw rocks, the water is usually very still. As soon as the rock hits the water it sinks but first it leaves behind a ripple and that ripple makes another one bigger than the first, which makes another one and so on. The bigger the rock the bigger the ripples. We’ve probably all seen this happen as it looks like rings around rings. And then within a minute the lake is quiet again until another stone is thrown.

There are many things these ripples could be used to represent many lessons but today we’re going to talk about faith & hope. Faith defined is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Hope defined is a feeling of trust, waiting with assurance for something to happen.

Jesus has given us many things to hope for. “I go to prepare a place for you and will come back for you (John 3:16). “Jesus will return with his angels and the dead in Christ will live again” (1 Thessalonians 4:16). “Jesus is coming back for us and there will be no more sickness, sorrow or death” (Revelation 21:4). Now we just need to have faith in what He has promised (Hebrews 11:6). Complete trust in Jesus and that He will do as He has promised.

Jesus said faith is like a mustard seed. Although tiny at first it grows into a mighty tree. Like the ripples in the water, just one drop of faith can cause ripples of faith to grow. And the bigger the faith the bigger the ripples.

So today have hope by showing faith and watch your ripples grow.
