Second Wind Strength

“He gives strength to those who are tired and more power to those who are weak.”

-Isaiah 40:29

My daughter and I started walking this summer. Not because I enjoy walking, but because she does, and this became a good bonding time for us.

At first, we’d walk only so far before I was ready to turn around and go home again. But the more walked the further she wanted to push, which is always good to progress. Well, the first time we went further I was doing okay but as we turned and began our walk home my body began to scream, ‘you can’t do this’. I wanted to bail so I called my son to come get us, but he was already taking a nap before work that night and so was his dad.

So, I did what had to be done and pushed through. Somewhere along the way I found my second wind and we made it home. There were a few stops, but we kept going. I was glad I pushed through my tired body and now we easily walk twice as far as before. My body still complains at times, but I know if I had to, I could make it no matter where we walk, I just choose not to.

How many of you felt you could do no more or give anymore or stay awake any longer and then suddenly that second wind kicks in and you suddenly can keep going for who knows how long.

Are there times your spiritual life feels you’ve hit the wall, you’ve lost your faith, you’ve lost your resolve, you’ve lost your strength, you feel exhausted from life? You just want that second wind, so you push through.

Just like you push through whatever is before you when you feel you just can’t anymore hoping that second wind kicks in, Jesus asks the same from us when serving Him. He instructed us to go and preach the gospel. There will be times we will feel the strain, the long hours, the fleeting energy not sure we can keep going, especially when the message is received poorly.

But we don’t have to wait for our second wind to keep us going. Jesus promises to be our second wind. First, Matthew 11:28 invites us to go to Him and He will give us rest when we feel weary.

And in 2 Corinthians 12:9, God’s grace is our strength and He is our power in weakness.

God ahead and push through whatever you need and believe Jesus is right behind you giving you that second wind and right in front of you stopping you from hitting that wall.
