SNAP= Stop Now And Pray
" I go to bed and sleep in peace, because, Lord, only you keep me safe."
-Psalm 4:8
"One sheep, two sheep, three sheep... Oh if I could only fall asleep and stay asleep."
We all have been there on more than one night. We can't shut our brains off, we have too much worry or stress. We might wake up feeling sick. But when we're supposed to be sleeping and we find ourselves counting the minutes we get restless and frustrated, don't we? My favorite is waking up from a good sleep wide awake for no reason and having a hard time falling back asleep.
If counting sheep is not working and you've tried all the remedies; warm milk, water, breathing, focusing... it's probably time to SNAP. Stop Now And Pray.
Ask the Lord to show you what He wants you to see or do at the moment you're wide awake. If there is nothing, ask Him to still your restless mind so you can fall asleep. If there are worries or stress, ask the Lord to take them for the night so you can find the rest you need.
David knew he had a lot of stress and worries as king and he had many enemies who wanted him dead. But he also believed in God and in prayer. When he felt restless and probably couldn't sleep he'd pray and a peace filled his soul so he could sleep. He knew God had it under control and all would work out.
So when you can't sleep just remember to S.N.A.P.
What a great post! I often find myself unable to sleep. I never thought to pray about it. I'll be trying it for sure!
Stop Now And Pray. I like it. Prayer changes things, even sleep!
