Deuteronomy 5:33, "Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess."

Who doesn't like a garage sale now and again? Driving along and finding just the right thing you've been looking for, for a great price. Have you had your own garage sale before? It can be fun making a few extra dollars to spend on yourself. They say one person's junk is another person's treasure. Although garage sales can be fun you still have to be a wise shopper. It's easy to get caught up in prices and buy things you really don't need or already have in abundance. I should know, I've done that on occasion 😊
Although garage sales are fun. There is one we must all avoid. We've all been shopping there at one time or another, but we don't have to keep going back. It's satan's garage sale.
Story: Once upon a time, satan was having a garage sale. There, standing in little groups were all of his bright, shiny trinkets. There were tools that make it easy to tear others down, to use as steppingstones. And over there were some lenses for magnifying one’s own importance, which, if you looked through them the other way, you could also use to belittle others or even oneself. Against the wall was the usual assortment of gardening implements guaranteed to help your pride grow by leaps and bounds: the rake of scorn, the shovel of jealousy for digging a pit for your neighbor, the tools of gossip and backbiting, or selfishness and apathy.
All of these were pleasing to the eye and came complete with fabulous promises and guarantees of prosperity. Prices, of course, were steep; but not to worry! Free credit was extended to all. “Take it home, use it, and you won't have to pay until later!” Satan cried, as he hawked his wares.
The visitor, as he browsed, noticed two well-worn non-descript tools standing in one corner. Not being nearly as tempting as the other items, he found it curious that those two tools had price tags higher than any other. When he asked why, satan just laughed and said, “Well, that's because I use them so much. If they weren't so plain looking, people might see them for what they are.” Satan pointed to the tool saying, “You see, that one's Doubt and the other one's Discouragement---and those will work when nothing else will.”
So how about you, have you been browsing in satan's garage sale lately? Are you letting him fill you with doubt and discouragement? God has promised us that He can turn our eyes from satan and forgive us. So, as you go through your day and begin to feel doubt and discouragement fill your mind, remember that all you have to do is stop and ask God to fill your mind with hopes and promises. He's always there and will do it in an instant if you ask.
It's a garage satan has spent years building and adding to. And with each new soul born he will find new ways to add on that will eventually pull at them too. As this world advances, he keeps adding- money, greed, selfishness, technology, etc.
This is a battle (garage sale) everyone, especially Christians, will have to face on the road of life. The question is, will you take the time to stop and browse or keep driving. If you decide to take a moment to browse, after all you don't have to buy anything, satan will have exactly what you need to keep you browsing until you end up buying something.
We are all traveling along in this life. Some roads are pleasant and the view lovely and calming. Other times roads can get bumpy, maybe a little dirty, and the view, a little harder to swallow. The good news is, as Christians, we know we aren't travelling alone. We may leave Jesus behind now and again at a gas station or pit stop, but He will always catch up to us again when we call to Him. If we get a little lost along the way we just need to pull out the map to His house.
This map will lead us home every time. We just need to avoid stopping at satan's garage sale while on the way to the Lord's house. Can you follow the map?
Make a right onto “Believeth Blvd.”
Keep straight and go through the green light, which is Jesus Christ.
From there, you must turn onto the “Bridge of Faith,” which is over Troubled Water.
When you get off the bridge, make a right turn and keep going straight. You are on the “King's Highway” Heaven bound.
Keep going for three miles: one for the Father, one for the Son, and one for the Holy Ghost.
Then exit off onto “Grace Blvd.”
From there, make a right turn on “Gospel Lane”
Keep straight and then make another right on “Prayer Rd.”
As you go on your way, yield not to the traffic on “Temptation Ave.”
Also, avoid SIN Street because it is a DEAD END.
Pass up “Envy Drive” and “Hate Ave.”
Also, pass “Hypocrisy St.”, “Gossiping Lane”, and “Backbiting Blvd.”
However, you must go down “Long-suffering Lane”, “Persecution Blvd.”, and “Trials and Tribulation Ave.”
But that's all right, because VICTORY Street is straight ahead!
There will come moments in life where we will find ourselves drifting to the left or the right. Especially when we see others may have more peace than us, or maybe we're not keeping up with them. That's when we need to remember to just keep moving forward. Jesus is our Shepherd who promises to be with us, guide us, and help us on the path that is best for us with a bright hope ahead- Psalm 23:3. He may not reveal the entire path at once, but we need to keep walking, leaning towards His voice and trusting His plans.
Today, as you travel along keep your eyes on Jesus instead of wandering into satan's garage sales. The Lord is good, and He offers the best of everything for us and it's all free, no strings attached, He already paid the price.
