“But you are a chosen people, royal priests, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession. You were chosen to tell about the wonderful acts of God, who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” -1 Peter 2:9
Remember as a child having to line up at recess or P.E. and then having to wait to be chosen on a team to play. If you were not a good player, maybe a little nerdy or not popular you were usually chosen last. It’s not a fun feeling to be at the bottom of the pecking order and it hurts to feel unwanted. I’ve been there and probably most of you have too. Probably still as an adult there’s a pecking order at your job or in your community. As awful as it seems we have to accept it as society.
We don’t have to accept it though. No matter where society places us, we can always be assured that we are chosen, we belong to someone and in His eyes, we are all number one. Jesus tells us in 1 Peter that God chose you and me to teach the world of Him. He picked us to show His light in a society of darkness.
When one stops to think about this they can find something amazing. God is creator of our world, He chose to come here to create a new earth and in all His creative thoughts He decided to make man. Not just any man but man in His image. Someone so like Him and even after we failed Him in sin He still chose us. He sent His son to free us from the sins of our father’s and He is coming back to take us to live in Heaven with Him. He has chosen us flaws and all and He wants us even if we’re a little nerdy, unpopular or at the bottom of this world’s pecking order.
Each day as you face your coworker’s, your classmates, your community and feel at the bottom remember two things. We are called not to live as the world lives but to be a light for Jesus even if we don’t always fit in with anyone else and that you are chosen by God and when He comes back we will have eternity in Heaven in God’s society and we all will be at the top.
