When You Don't See it Coming

Jeremiah 29:11, “I say this because I know what I am planning for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future.”

We’ve all at least heard the words ‘Heads up!’ called out to us at least once in our lifetime. Usually, it means we are not paying attention or are caught up in what we are doing, and some object is going to hit us if we don’t get the warning. A baseball, a Frisbee, someone dropping something from above us, or everyone’s favorite, someone missing the basket as they throw something in the trash. Usually once we hear the warning, we are able to stop the oncoming impact.

So, what do you do in life when something happens to you that you didn’t see coming? Unfortunately, at those times we don’t get a warning and BAM we are caught going, “Umm what just happened?”

It’s a choice we all have to make, and it never will be an easy one. What do you do when you suddenly lose your job, a unexpected death happens, the person you’re dating suddenly treats you different than how it’s been (usually not for the better), a friend suddenly won’t speak to you and you have no idea what happened. Or your child, once they’ve turned 18, decides to move across country to start their life. With your head now spinning and your jaw dropped in total confusion, what do you do?

It’s as simple as two choices. You can either curl up in a hole under a blanket refusing to deal with it or you can face it head on and not allow it to bring you down. Give it to God first, do what you can and then LET IT GO! Pick up the broken pieces and let God now heal you.

Sure, there will be tears and pain, sometimes sorrow and that’s okay, we need time to grieve, time to let it sink in, and time to catch our breath again. Just don’t stay there, do as God asks and give your burdens to Him (Matthew 11:28-29). Each day after, God has given you another day and another chance to make your mark in this world. Thank God for the memories, the lessons learned, the friendships acquired and pray for new beginnings and fresh hope.

Depression begins in that hole and that is where satan wants to keep you. Don’t let him have that power over you, take the power and strength God gives and move forward. No matter the circumstance God has a plan, and it is always for our good and it is always better.

God has a reason for allowing things to happen. We may never understand His wisdom, but we simply have to trust His will (Psalm 37:5). Remember, when you don’t see it coming God already has and He’s already there for you, catching you as the incoming impact hits you head on.

It’s worth our time and energy to read and study the Bible regularly. In such a world of chaos and busyness things will always come up to keep us too busy to reach for the Word of God to study and read it. But, it is in the pages we will find the strength to face the chaos and find a way to move around this world even with all that we are busy with. When we take time to read the Bible it helps equip us to stand and face the spiritual warfare happening daily. The Word of God becomes your weapon as you stand in the face of life’s challenges and struggles. God has provided everything you need for your life as you pursue Him. As you stay connected to Him through His Word, you’ll be able to stand and persevere until the day that you stand before Him. All Scripture becomes available to you to overcome any discouragement, doubts, and fear that might come against you. God has made you more than a conqueror (Rom. 8:31-39). Let's continue our study through Proverbs. Remember that is no need to feel overwhelmed and that you have to finish 5 chapters in one day. Just take them one or two a day and let the Lord lead you in your walk with Him. There is a study for you to follow with each blog and you can click the links whenever you are ready to move on. Today let's look at and read Proverbs chapters 16-20.
