Psalm 92:12, “But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.”

I know that I've probably mentioned in previous blogs, that there are many things that fascinate me about trees. Aside from the fact that they can be beautiful to look at, and I can easily find myself taking pictures of their unique intricacies or the way they grow, (yes, I have lots of pictures). There are always new things that we can learn from trees.
I have yet to make a trip to California's Sierra Nevada mountains or Redwood National Park to see their trees, but I've seen pictures. Mighty Sequoias and Coastal Redwoods. Their widths and heights make them the largest, tallest trees in the world. Yep, that would be cool to see.
As I've said we can find answers to our dilemmas, our struggles, even how to walk more like Christ through nature. So, today let's go talk to some trees or if you'd like, hug a tree.
1. Stand tall and proud- 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
You are a Christian, better yet, you are part of God's family. When adversity comes your way stand tall and proud. The Lord is your leader and will take care of you in all you face. Face life with courage and keep a clear perspective. With God you can do all things.
2. Sink your roots into the earth- Colossians 2:6-7
Stay grounded in your values and community allowing it to give you the stability to grow. You are standing on solid ground when you stay rooted in the Lord. When rooted deep in Jesus you will bend but not break. Like trees that are flexible to the changing seasons and harsh storms. When we are rooted, we will learn to endure life's challenges without breaking.
3. Be content with your natural beauty and uniqueness- Psalm 139:14
Just as no two trees are identical you are your own person. Embrace your shape, quirks, and path. Know you are exactly how God created you to be, content. He has a plan for your life. Like a tree shares its fruits, God has given you talents and special gifts. Use them to bring sweetness to others sharing the love of Jesus to them.
4. Be a team player- 1 Corinthians 12:20-22
In The Hidden Life of Trees, Peter Wohlleben says, “A tree can only be as strong as the forest that surrounds it.” Support each other, collaborate, be a source of comfort, provide for others in need. Like trees support one another sharing resources through their connected root system, you can help others by sharing your roots in Jesus.
5. Drink plenty of water- 3 John 1:2
Water is essential for a trees growth just as our bodies need water to live. Drink up not only physical water but drink from Jesus, our Living Water, and you will also grow spiritually.
6. Let go and live in the present- 2 Corinthians 5:17
Trees let their leaves go in the fall teaching us to also let go of things we don't need to survive. We can let go and make room for newness in Jesus. Trees don't live in the past or worry about the future, they simply live in the present making use of the resources they have now. We too need to trust God's got our future in His hands and simply live in the present using what God provides now.
7. Always grow towards the light- Ephesians 5:8
Trees always grow toward the sun seeking the best resource for their growth. Jesus is our light, as we grow toward Him seeking to live righteously we will grow tall and in abundance allowing Jesus to use us to leave a lasting impact on the world around us even if it's just in your community, neighborhood, for church. Let Jesus be your light,
Trees are truly unique and can grow in so many different ways that one can easily be mesmerized when they take the time to look. Next time you find yourself next to some trees pause for a moment. Look up at the branches and leaves. Let its quiet strength refresh your soul and listen for its whisper’s good advice. You could find the answers you've been looking for are and simply be reminded of the things you already know. Let Jesus fill your spirit today through the trees as you seek to live more like Him daily.
