Matthew 19:26, “Jesus looked at them and said, “For people this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”
Isaac Newton's law of motion states that every action brings an equal and opposite reaction. Translate this to a spiritual law. If you serve the King of Kings, satan will react. When you serve our God of heaven, satan and his demons on earth won't be giving you a standing ovation.
There's a story in the Bible of when the Jews returned from Babylonian captivity. They returned with the determination to rebuild the temple. As they began to act, the neighbors began to react. The neighbors weren't happy and tried to discourage the people of Judah. They caused trouble, hired people to raise trouble and to discourage their purpose- Ezra 4:45. If you read verses 7-24 you learn that they even sent a letter to the king of Persia to get the building to stop.
This of course worked. The Jews became so discouraged that the rebuilding of God's house came to a stop for not just a year or two but for sixteen years! The Jews decided it was better to keep to themselves and focus on their personal walk. They convinced themselves, God must not be ready for them to build.
God decided it was time to encourage His people and light a fire within them. We read in Ezra 5 and 6 that God sent, not one but two prophets, Haggai and Zechariah, to encourage the people. It worked and the temple was finished.
It's inspiring that what encouraged God's people to finish the task was His Word spoken through His prophets. When God wants us to act, He will send us any means possible to give us the courage we need. The word of God does the work of God in the hearts of the people of the Lord.
If you're facing adversity or struggling to feel you can’t do what God has called you to do, it's time to get into the Bible. Talk with someone who can help encourage you with God's truth. Find the courage you need to move forward. Anything is better than going backwards or standing still.
God has called us all and given us all spiritual gifts to help build His Kingdom. What work has He called you to do? Are you using those gifts, or have you stopped because of discouragement? Are you listening to the naysaying neighbors allowing satan to fill your head with lies that you're not gifted or qualified?
The Lord is coming, and His work is moving forward. Don't let your own thoughts keep you still for sixteen years. Pray the Lord will continually help fuel your fire and let the Holy Spirit lead you in using your gifts for the Lord so His work will be accomplished.
I recently heard that Satan has become smarter in his attacks to keep us from advancing in our spiritual lives. He uses things like Netflix, Facebook, e-mail, our jobs, even our families, to keep us from prioritizing time with God. Spending time in prayer (talking to God), reading, studying and meditating on Scripture (listening to God), is every bit as important as maintaining a healthy diet and workout routine. Now, you wouldn’t miss a workout, would you? While Jesus walked on earth, He referred to Himself as the bread of life and urged His followers to feed their souls before looking to satisfy their bodies. I'm reminded of the song, Read your Bible, pray everyday and you'll grow grow grow. When we spend time in God's Word and with Him that is what happens, our hearts grow closer to Him and we learn who Jesus is and He becomes a friend we can talk to, trust, go to for help and so much more. I know it can be difficult but we all have a few moments each day we fill up with TV, Facebook, and stuff that can distract us and kill time. If you want to grow in Jesus you have to take the steps and open His Word, keep reading, keep going to the Word with a sincere desire to learn, and God will reveal Himself. Today let's continue our study with Hebrews 12:12-29.
