Philippians 2:5, “In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus.”

It's been quite a while since I wrote a blog like this. Taking simple things around your home and finding a way to remind us to be more Christlike. There are several things on this list we're going to talk about so let's jump right in.
A toothpick: Pick out the good in others- Matthew 7:1
Many interactions these days whether at work, at home, or on the telephone have been bouncing off each other reacting in ways people react to us. A smile or a frown, a positive word or negative word, a look. Unfortunately, it is becoming more the negative over positive. There is a solution to this. “When we seek to discover the best in others, we somehow bring out the best in ourselves.” -author unknown.
“Humans are beautiful. Life is beautiful, but only when we see through the eyes of love... Even if you meet a few who carry shadows instead of light, don't let bitterness take route. Smile at them, wish them well, and walk away.” -excerpts from Eyes of Love poem.
A rubber band: Be flexible- Romans 8:28
One of the hardest things for any human to be, flexible. When unexpected things happen it's easy to get frustrated. Learning to be flexible can allow you to cope through situations more effectively and with less negativity. A few ideas you can use: -Accept what you can't change.
-Step back from your thoughts. -Focus on the present. -See the bigger picture. -Live by your values. -Take some risks.
As Christians we invite Jesus into our lives to help guide us in a way that leads to Him and shows others His light. This will require having some flexibility in life both spiritually and with those around you.
A band-aid: Heal hurt feelings- Colossians 3:12-14
What do you do when you have a cut or a sore? You put a band-aid over it. I recently had a very dry area that was cracking on my finger. I simply kept a band-aid over it for a while. Eventually it healed because I protected it instead of leaving it exposed.
As Christians, we are asked to look out for others keeping their feelings in mind and how we can help. Cover them with God's love instead of leaving them exposed to the world's elements and God will help them heal. If you are hurt, allow God to be your band-aid and help you heal.
A pencil: Write down your blessings each day- Psalm 103:2-5
There is a lot of bad going on around us. Opening any news venue can actually be depressing and leave one feeling there is no hope left. It's actually good for our well-being to count our blessings and the Bible has many verses supporting this idea. So how can we start counting our blessings?
- Remember God's deeds- David in psalm 103 gives us a good list to start with. Each day actively recall God's faithfulness in your life.
- Focus on gratitude- shift your focus from complaining to acknowledging God's presence and provisions, even in trials.
- Give thanks in all situations- thankfulness is not only during good times but in all times. Are you awake, thank Him. Do you have running water; thank Him. Do you still live freely (despite our government), thank Him. In all things give thanks.
An eraser: We all make mistakes and that's OK- genesis 50:15-21
Oh, if we could list the many mistakes of God's chosen people in scripture, we'd be here for quite a while. Yet, when a heart is sorry, God says it's okay, learn from it and grow. Some mistakes may be repeated a few times, but God is still erasing them helping us to grow past it.
When eraser erases you may see remnants of the mistake, but they can be written over leaving newness. We may have some scars for mistakes, but God forgives and helps us write something new in our lives.
Gum: Stick with it, you can do anything- Philippians 4:13
Some tasks, some challenges, even learning something new can be difficult. Sure, giving up can be an option but not a good one. If you feel the call to take on something go for it, God has promised to help you accomplish it.
Trust God to shape your desires and give you continuous strength. With God you can do the impossible. It may come in incremental steps and in a certain order, but God will equip you in His timing and the outcome will be fruitful.
Hershey kiss- We all need hugs and kisses each day- John 13:34-35
Everyone craves physical touch in one way or another at some point in life. A hug let’s someone know you are there for them and they are most important at that moment. It's simply a way to bond with each other. Not everyone can handle a hug but even offering the gesture to them means a lot. A hug or kiss can greatly impact someone where words cannot, and it is away to show God to them. It is a gesture of love and God is love.
A tea bag: Relax and revisit your list of blessings- 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Tea can be relaxing; it can calm our souls. The warmth of the steam can quiet our minds. In many cultures Tea Time is a regular part of the day. Time to get together with friends, visit and catch up. We can take time in our day to pause with some tea or hot chocolate and reflect with God. Chat with Him and thank Him again for what He has done in your life.
Well, this is quite a list but hopefully you were inspired at new ways to look at things in your life in your daily walk with Jesus allowing Him to help you grow more like Him and less like the world. Tuck these simple everyday tools into your toolbox and remember to use them daily with others not only strengthening your walk with God but showing the light of God to others.
