Let Freedom Ring

Galatians 1:5, “We have freedom now, because Christ made us free. So stand strong. Do not change and go back into the slavery of the law."

Fourth of July, a date that brings celebration across America. As Americans, for better or worse, we have something unique, a way of life that stands out different from all other countries. From fast cars to rock-n-roll, a holiday every month, to one of my favorite celebrations of the year, aside from Christmas 😊.
At this time of year, we turn our focus to the 4th of July, in celebration of becoming a country. This year we are celebrating, in a bigger way, because it is our 250th birthday. July 4th, a time for parades, cookouts, boating, flag waving, and proud of our stars and stripes, and of course fireworks all across the nation. I love this time with family and friends but there is one thing that stands out the most that I cherish… Freedom.
Yes, freedom where we can say what we want, live without tyranny, worship and praise God freely, and so much more. A freedom yes, but a freedom that came with a cost. A freedom that many men and women fought for, some with their lives so we can live in this country. Despite all we go through, I am proud to be an American. Thankful I can live with the fundamental rights of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” and exercise these rights. “Let freedom ring” exists deep within the heart of every individual. It is not just a stirring line from a classic American anthem but an attitude that resonates with everyone in this land.
Yet, with all our freedoms, people still find themselves enslaved. No, not by any master’s but to themselves. Enslaved by choices they have made that now they feel trapped by. Their burdens, their sins, their pasts. They might live in a free country, but they don’t feel free. And this enslavement comes from only one person, satan. He tries to keep us down, daily puts the burdens on us, so we don’t feel free.
There is another freedom we have though, another freedom we should be celebrating. Celebrating not just once a year but daily. A freedom that was paid at a high price. A freedom that can pull us out from our burdens, our sins, our pasts, and a freedom that cost the life of one man, but a freedom that ends with life eternal.
Since creation we have been given the chance to freely make our choices and although they haven’t always been the best choices, Jesus came to give us a freedom from those choices. When Jesus died on the cross, He was saying, ‘I free you from your choices that have enslaved you. I am offering you freedom and a home with me, free from satan and the sins that bind you, and all I ask is that you follow me and tell others of Me.’
At our core, we are all made to be free because, in truth, we are all the children of God, and are spiritual made to reflect God’s nature. Paul’s words from 2 Corinthians 3:17 spells it clearly for us, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty”
Starting with God rather than the problem, we can each proclaim our freedom from whatever would burden us, whether it is fear, sickness, temptations, financial struggles, an overwhelming job, or a difficult relationship. God, who is Love, defines our experience and loves us. Step by step and thought by thought, we can realize and prove what Love knows about us, we really are free.
Mrs. Eddy says it well, “Citizens of the world, accept the ‘glorious liberty of the children of God,’ and be free! This is your divine right”. -Science and Health, p. 227
So, as we spend this 4th of July celebrating our freedoms in this world, let us also remember the freedom God has given us. We hold the keys; not only to our spiritual freedom, but we can help show way to spiritual freedom with those we come in contact with each day. We have the awesome privilege of telling them the Good News, that they can be born again and "let freedom ring" in their hearts. Sharing Jesus allows others to know Jesus and find the same wonderful freedom God gives to everyone. Let us bring back God so we truly can say, ‘God bless America’ and ‘God bless this world’.
