Make Beholding a Habit

1 John 1:7, " But if we live in the light, as God is in the light, we can share fellowship with each other. Then the blood of Jesus, God’s Son, cleanses us from every sin."

Can you relate? You start your day and set out to get your tasks accomplished but as the day goes by you become distracted by so many other things. Maybe some things are thoughts that lead to worry or fretting about how this or that get accomplished when I have to deal with this other stuff. Will there be enough time, will things line up like they should, or how will they look on paper? You may even find yourself derailing at work or school focusing on something other than what's in front of you. Let's not forget that precious eight hours of sleep. Oh, wait, nope, thoughts, thoughts, thoughts, and more thoughts.
Here's another thought. During worship on Sabbath, as much as we all want to say, ‘I can stay focused’. Have your thoughts wandered? Do you get distracted now and again? When you sing the hymns do you simply sing the words or do you really see Jesus in the words so beautifully written.
At work, school, home, church, or play. Do you take time to find Jesus? Or is it simply wake up, go through the motions, go to sleep, and repeat. Then on Sabbath give God your ‘two hours’ of church so you can check it off your weekly list.
People wonder why this world is falling apart. Some may even question why their own life is not a bed of roses every moment of every day. Why is it so easy to let fear, worry, depression, anger, and at times darkness fill our thoughts? If we are Christians, and we know we'll face trials, yet also know we have a promise unlike any other, why do we lose faith and hope? Why do the troubling seas overwhelm us?
Yes, part of it is because it's in our DNA. Yet, I read the simple sentence once and it struck a note. “With all our thoughts, derailments, and distraction the Lord spoke, ‘Will you just look at me?’”
Wow, with all that goes on in my day-to-day. Even though I follow Jesus, have a relationship with Him, and try to walk as a Christian. Do I really just stop and look at Jesus?
The Creator of our Universe, my Lord and Savior, simply wants my attention. A moment where I am truly looking at Him without distraction. There only needs to be one look. One look to Jesus and you will be filled with His presence and all of your worries and thoughts will be left behind. Jesus says when we seek Him with all our heart, we will find Him- Jeremiah 29:13.
One look to Jesus and you will shine like the sun because Jesus is the Light of the World- John 8:12. That means you're distracting thoughts, your fears and worries, your trials that feel like darkness will be gone when you look to Jesus. 1 John 1:7, “Live in God's light and you will be in light.”
Life will absolutely give us reason to worry and fret and get distracted. We just need to remember that God is above our problems, and anything is possible with Him- Matthew 19:26.
We simply need to look at Jesus not just to Him. When we call to Jesus, He hears and promises to deliver us- Psalm 34:4-5, 7. Jesus will always make a way where we see no way- Psalm 34:15, “The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help.”
Seeking God in the middle of errands, work, driving, even church, and all you do should be part of your daily walk. It's easy to let doubts and worries, stress and daily living, trials and distractions become a habit. I say we should break this habit, in which I am guilty of myself, and make beholding a habit. Find Jesus by simply looking at Jesus. Let your eyes meet His through the quieting of your soul, inviting the Holy Spirit in to guide your heart constantly. When you look at Jesus you will find His presence and peace.
Yes, Jesus lives in those who have accepted and abide in Him. There is something wonderful that happens when you look at Jesus. Troubles will still come, trials will be here, we will have bad days, but when we look at Jesus those problems will be burdens that He lifts off our shoulders and in the chaos, we will still find peace that passes all understanding.
Look at these lyrics that I heard not too long ago. If you can, click the link to hear the music. Jesus is Living in Me
Verse 1 Lonely years I had lived in
My life had no meaning
Till I heard about cavalry
Verse 2 Then I kneel down in prayer
The Lord met me there
Now Jesus he's living in me
Chorus
He is in my feet when I'm walking
In my tongue when I'm talking
In my eyes and now I can see
He's in the songs that I'm singing
In my heart His joy is ringing
Jesus is living in me
Verse 3 Through the valleys he is brought me
To the top of the mountain
And over life’s trouble, trouble sea
Verse 4
Now I sing for his glory
Song that tell the great story
Cause Jеsus is living in me
