1 Corinthians 12:27, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

I enjoy music and I enjoy singing with little ones. They are eager to sing, learn motions, and their smiles are infectious. A privilege I have is being able to sing with the little ones at my job. All the way down to the babies we can get smiles and giggles. A favorite that gets them to listen while waiting in line, or for the younger littles, is teaching them, Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. Are you humming it yet 😊

It’s a wonder to think about when we begin to think about our bodies. How we need each part of the body working together to function properly. We are complex, with 78 organs working individually and collectively. A dozen distinct symptoms coexist seamlessly. Have you ever injured a part of your body and didn't realize how important it was until it affects everything else.

The Bible states it quite well in 1 Corinthians 12:12-26. A body can't be complete unless all is working together. This of course is turned into another lesson we can learn as Christians and how we can grow together with other Christians when we work together. As God's creation, He has given us…

     Eyes: Psalm 19:11

Not to judge others but to look beyond situations. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes is not just a cute piece of wisdom but really rings true. A person could be going through a difficult time or simply having a bad day. We need to remember that no one else is meant to live like you or think like you. We are all on our own path, and walk with God. When you begin judging you begin to forget you are not perfect and you have faults. Instead of judging let your eyes show understanding, compassion, and God's love. Remember, if you are pointing a finger of judgment there three other fingers pointing back at you.

     Mouth: Ephesians 4:29

Not to criticize but to speak for the truth. Did you catch that? It's not always about speaking truth only, it's speaking for the truth. Speaking for Jesus and what He has done for us or His promises for us. This also goes along with judging. Speak words that uplift not tear down. It can be hard to do but often it's better to hold our tongues if we can't bring peace instead of stirring up strife. A thing I have to learn and remember at times myself too.

     Hands: Ecclesiastes 9:10

Not to punish but to give a helping hand. Oh how easy it is to joke about wanting to slap some people we encounter throughout the day. One thing I like about my job is that it's not our place to discipline the children when the attitudes start or the temper tantrums flare up. Yes, we may have to be firm with them as what not to do. But our goal is how we can help them work through their very real, very human emotions. Gentle hands of love versus hands to punish.

     Ears: James 1:19

Ears to listen, not to be insensitive but and aid those in pain. When we take the time to stop and listen to others instead of making it all about us, we can hear their good, and their heartbreak. We can rejoice with them or offer the help they need. Also, when we simply take the time to be still and listen, we can hear God speaking to us even if it's just through nature.

Every part of our body has a purpose and needs each other part to work as God created us too. Like our bodies need our hands to feel and create, our feet to walk, nose to smell, eyes to see, mouth to talk, ears to hear, and all the in-between to work together. This includes a brain to think and a heart to keep us alive and to love. Like our bodies, we must work together with other Christians to further the Lord's work. We need each other and belong together- Romans 12:4-6. Together we can build each other up in love and support as we all work with the gifts God has given us- Ephesians 4:16.

This is good news! We aren't alone living out our faith; we are in network helping each other through this journey in life with all of the ups and downs, the strengths and weaknesses. We can have laughter that can cheer up the day. We not only have this for us, but we can share it with others, all working together for the Lord.

Go ahead and sing out loud and have some fun, ‘Head, shoulders, knees, and toes. Eyes and ears and mouth and nose.’ The Lord has made them all 😊 Like your body needs everything to work properly, as co-workers for Jesus and His ministry, we need to work together with other Christians as God has called us to do. Let your light shine for all to see Jesus living in you.
