Ephesians 3:17 “I pray that Christ will live in your hearts by faith and that your life will be strong in love and be built on love.”
There’s a story of a little girl who got a doll for her birthday. When she showed it to her aunt, she was proud of her special doll. “But it’s what’s inside that counts,” the little girl beamed.
Her aunt wondered why stuffing and fabric would make the doll so special but didn’t want to crush her nieces’ spirit, so she replied, “Why of course. Your dolls heart makes her special.”
“No silly,” the girl giggled. “Look.”
She then proceeded to flip the doll over, unzip the dress to reveal a small compartment that held the girl’s special treasures.
This reminds me of something special. Although we don’t have a compartment inside us to hold what we think is precious to us, we do have a special treasure in all of us.
When we choose Jesus in our lives He dwells in our hearts. He gives us strength and helps us show love to others. With Jesus in our life there is no greater treasure and the gift is never-ending. Jesus’ promises when we choose Him, walk with Him, serve and follow Him, He has promised a home in heaven with Him free from this world of sin and sorrow. What a beautiful treasure to carry around in our hearts.
So, what is your treasure? Pleasures on this earth where rust and moths will destroy them or having Jesus in your heart and the treasure of heaven where nothing destroys it.
There is a song called ‘Into My Heart’ where we invite Jesus to live in our hearts. There Jesus just doesn’t walk by us, only a Lord who helps in our times of need. Jesus dwells in our hearts living with us all the time. “Into my heart, into my heart. Come into my heart Lord Jesus. Come in today, come in to stay. Come into my heart Lord Jesus.’
2 Corinthians 4:6-7 says, “God once said, “Let the light shine out of the darkness!” This is the same God who made his light shine in our hearts by letting us know the glory of God that is in the face of Christ. We have this treasure from God, but we are like clay jars that hold the treasure. This shows that the great power is from God, not from us.” Here we are described as earthen vessels who have “this treasure”, Jesus, inside us. When Jesus lives in us, we can see the glory of God. Jesus is a precious treasure that lives in us revealing God from within.
The second verse in the song says, ‘Out of my heart, shine out of my heart Lord Jesus, shine out today, shine out always, shine out of my heat Lord Jesus.’
Galatians 2:20 says, “I was put to death on the cross with Christ, and I do not live anymore—it is Christ who lives in me. I still live in my body, but I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself to save me.” Christ lives in us. Our Christian life is not about behaving like Jesus but allowing Jesus to live in and through us, so others see Jesus and want to know Him too.
I read this and thought it was a good thing to share, “What a glory to God, a marvel to man, and a shame to the devil, that people on this earth would choose to receive Christ and allow Him to grow in them and express Himself through them throughout their lives! The Christ in us, who lives in us and is being formed in us, will be revealed from within us, and even our bodies will be transformed to match Him at the second coming.’ -Unknown
I do like the things our family has acquired over the years especially the photos containing memories but, for me, my treasure is Jesus. Daily I will invite Him into my heart and pray others will see Him shining out from my heart. Jesus is my treasure, what is your treasure today?
