A Day with God

Romans 15:13 "I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace while you trust in him. Then your hope will overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Each day brings us 24 hours to spend doing things. On average we probably sleep 7 to 8 hours and work up to 8 hours. That leaves roughly 8 hours in a day of our time. So, what do you do during your time? Probably chores around the home, eating, running errands, hopefully some family time, maybe some TV time. Then before you know it, you're off to slumberland and wonder where the day has gone.

Let me ask you this. Before closing your eyes to sleep, how much time did you give to God? Was it a quick prayer good morning, maybe a short devotional before preparing for the day? In all your running around did you think of Him? Give Him thanks for safety on the roads or for your meals? Did you encourage someone by sharing Jesus just once? Was it just a quick prayer goodnight as you fell asleep? How much of the day did you spend with Jesus?

Let's look at some verses in scripture and the time Jesus spends with us.

Every day God thinks of you- Philippians 1:6 “God began doing a good work in you, and I am sure he will continue it until it is finished when Jesus Christ comes again.”

---It’s not just in passing or if He finds time. God had your life planned from creation and will work with you and think about you through salvation.

Every hour God looks after you- 2 Thessalonians 3:3 “But the Lord is faithful and will give you strength and will protect you from the Evil One.”

---God knows satan is out to harm you so daily, every hour, He is protecting you even when you are unaware of His protection. On the roads, while you're walking, or shopping. God is with you.

Every minute God cares for you- 1 Peter 5:7 “Give all your worries to him, because he cares about you.”

---God asks us to give our worries to Him because His shoulders are big enough to carry them and all He wants is to help you find peace. He'll be there all day by your side holding those burdens for you even if you don’t need Him too.

Every second God loves you- Jeremiah 31:3 “I love you people with a love that will last forever. That is why I have continued showing you kindness.”

---What a promise. Out of the 86,400 seconds of each day God loves us. Through the good and bad, He loves us and wants to take care of us. His love is unfailing even when we sin or disappoint Him. And nothing we do will change His love towards us. We are the ones who change.

Every part of each day God wants to spend with you and with me and no matter how many people walk this earth He will always make time with you. Which when you think about it, is awesome and shows us how big God is compared to this world. You may think, ‘It's hard, I have a job, I have to sleep, I have a family that requires my time. Every hour, every minute, every second, everyday? How can I fit that into my time too?’

I agree it's tough and distractions get in the way all too easily. All we can do is give our best and try a little harder throughout each day. If we set our watches to go off every hour we can say a quick prayer for the last hour. Turn off the TV just a little sooner to say a prayer. Talk with Jesus in the car, while preparing for the day, while cooking. If God can give us, His children, the devoted time, we ought to be striving to spend more of our days with Jesus.

To close I have liked this poem since I was in high school. Read the words and let the Holy Spirit lead you in how you should spend your days with Jesus.

Time to Pray

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day; I had so much to accomplish that I didn't have time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me, and heavier came each task. "Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered. He answered, "You didn't ask."

I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day toiled on, gray and bleak; I wondered why God didn't show me. He said, "But you didn't seek."

I tried to come into God's presence; I used all my keys at the lock. God gently and lovingly chided, "My child, you didn't knock."

I woke up early this morning, and paused before entering the day; I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray. Author unknown
