Change Your Battleground

Colossians 2:15. “God stripped the spiritual rulers and powers of their authority. With the cross, he won the victory and showed the world that they were powerless.”

Okay, there are two battles most of us are familiar with, my husband knows these more than I do, I had to do a little Google 😊. One outcome was good the other rendered defeat for the U.S. Custer’s Last Stand and The Battle of Bunker Hill.

     To sum it up. Custer took his troops onto a battleground he was not prepared for, toward the Native Americans. This resulted in a huge defeat and loss of many lives.

     On the flip side, during the American Revolution, William Prescott knew a battle was imminent and his soldiers were low on ammunition, amongst other things. His battleground well prepared as he told his men the famous quote we know now, “Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes.” In other words, save your ammo and shoot when they are close enough to gain victory. And victory was attained that day on Bunker Hill.

     In life we will hopefully never have to physically fight in a war, but we still face battles, chaotic challenges, and tough trials. Each battle we face will test our faith and stretch our trust. The enemy is real, and he is always slithering around ready for a fight. This is his battleground and he's been roaming it for a very long time. He knows what it can take to win your soul when left unguarded.

     Think about this for a moment. An eagle does not fight the snake on the ground. It picks it up into the sky and changes the battleground and then releases the snake into the air. The snake has no stamina, no power, and no balance in the air. It is useless, weak, and vulnerable unlike the ground where it is powerful, wise, and deadly.

     No, we may not be able to fly to a higher battleground, but we have a battleground to fight on where the devil is powerless. On our knees in prayer is where we take our battles where God can take over and give us victory!

     No matter our battle when we allow God into our life, He promises he will fight on our behalf -Exodus 14:14. We are never alone and with God on our side the enemy will be defeated!

     When you feel the battle is getting closer to you and you begin to see and feel defeated, call upon our Savior and claim these promises:

-1. God is always with us- Zephaniah 3:17

     Here are a few examples: Noah's ark, Daniel in the lion’s den, Shadrack, Misheck, and Abednego, Queen Esther, the disciples and so many more. Just as God was with those in the Bible, He is with us today and promises to protect and provide.

-2. God fights our battles- 2 Chronicles 20:15

     When the Amalekites attacked the Israelites at Rephidim, Joshua fought the battle while Moses went and prayed reminding us that “the battle belongs to the Lord”.

     Remember as we face trials, we need to trust and obey, allowing God to give us victory. I like how Dr. April Joy put this, “Lord, help me to be so anchored in you that crisis around me does not create crisis in me.”

-3. God uses what we have- 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

     A boy's small lunch, a staff in Moses' hand, a slingshot. We may not have wings to fly above this battleground, but we can gain victory when we allow God to use our talents as extraordinary tools for victory.

-4. God sends help when we need it -Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

     We are not meant to fight alone. God sends others to offer their support when we need it most. Just like Aaron did for Moses while he was praying, during the battle with the Amalekites.

     Everyone needs a support system; those who will be with them through trials and battles. Surround yourself with people who will help you stay strong and be that support for others.

-5. We must choose to trust and praise God -Psalm 20:5

     The Israelites had a victory that day against the Amalekites. Afterwards Moses praised God by building an altar and naming it Yahweh-Nissi: The Lord is my banner.

     During our battles we can either focus on our circumstances or lift our hands in surrender and praise to God.

     We don't need to fight the enemy in his comfort zone. We simply need to change our battleground by aligning our hearts with God and acknowledging that He is in control, and He alone will bring us victory. Arm yourself with His armor daily and go to Him earnestly in prayer for victory. You have been promised victory because God's got this, and He's got you!

One of the ways we can keep our battleground with the Lord is by keeping ourselves emersed in God's Word. He can guide us, share with us, and helps us face whatever the world and satan throws at us. Let's continue our study in our pathway to joy with lesson 4.
