Fear Factor

Psalm 34:4 “I asked the Lord for help, and he answered me. He saved me from all that I feared.”

For all my faithful readers. My family will be on busy and on vacation the next few weeks so I will be coming back in July with more inspirational stories and more books of the Bible to explore. I hope you are enjoying your summer and family and may God fill your home and heart with many blessings and we will talk again in a few weeks.

There once was a show on T.V. called fear factor. I don't remember much about it because I never watched it. From the advertisements for it, I remember people would join the show and be faced with their biggest fears. Or at least have to endure something that could cause fear. I remember people would be blindfolded and set in a Chamber of creepy, slimy crawly things or free fall from high places or whatnot. Some even endured being trapped in a car underwater and they had to try to get out or be put in a dark room with things like alligators and having to try to escape. All things were timed, and the people had to get out the fastest. People put themselves through this just to be the last fear survivor for money.

To me I feel having to endure this type of game is not worth the money in the end. Fears are very real and can be very paralyzing to some and your fears are where the devil can get you the most. Taking our emotions and turning them into a game is what he does best. Once he has you paralyzed in your fears, he can begin his attacks to pull you away from Jesus who has promised to be your strength.

One thing we can be assured of is that the tormenting fears we face do not come from the loving God we serve. Fears can be an unpleasant feeling and can be triggered by anything in this world, which as I have said, is satan's playground. The opposite of fear is trust, calmness, courage which comes from God. In a way fear can be healthy to have and it does keep us out of danger and helps our survival instincts, but fear can also be unhealthy when it keeps us from doing things or living. When it rules over our life and can lead to chronic health problems, ulcers, stomach problems and even cardiovascular damage. Can you see why satan is happy when you live in the state of fear? When we let fear overtake us, we begin to lose faith in God. Yes, we all have fears, fears of high places, the dark, creepy crawly things, clowns, and much more. I believe in a way we also all fear the future, the unknown, where this world is really heading. The good news is there is an antidote and that is believing and trusting that God is by our side supporting, forgiving and loving us through our fears, the future, and our lives altogether. Our antidote can be found throughout scripture and even shows us how to overcome fear.

Isaiah 43:2- “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. When you cross rivers, you will not drown. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flames hurt you.”

---God is with us by our side no matter what obstacles we run into.

2 Timothy 1:7- “God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid but a spirit of power and love and self-control.”

---We don't need to be afraid; God has promised to give us love, power in ways to get past our fears.

Isaiah 41:10- “So don’t worry, because I am with you. Don’t be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you.”

---When facing fear God promises to hold her hand through it.

1 John 5:4- “because everyone who is a child of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world—our faith.”

---With Jesus we are told we will overcome what is thrown at us. We can face fear with faith.

Ephesians 6:10- “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his great power.”

---We can be courageous and determined when we walk with God and his power.

Hebrews 13:5- “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be satisfied with what you have. God has said,”

---No matter the obstacle God will NEVER leave you.

Exodus 33:14- “The Lord answered, “I myself will go with you, and I will give you victory.”

---We will find rest in Jesus.

John 14:16- “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper to be with you forever”

---Finally, Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit who will help us through our fears.

Fears will be there because we are human but with Jesus by our side, they become easier to face and if need be to get through. But we don't have to go looking for fear even if it's for money, it only brings our body and emotions down. The best thing we can do is hang on to God who is our vine- John 15:4 because God will never leave us alone in any circumstance.

I want to leave you with some steps our pastor shared in overcoming fear:

- Know who you are.

- Let go of the past.

- Refuse to focus on fear.

- Do not let it paralyze you or steal your joy.

- Realize that God is with you.

- Pray ALWAYS

- Confront your fear.

- Trust in God

- Remember what God has done in the past.

- Meditate on the word of God daily.

- Be filled with love because when love prevails fear stops existing.

- Be in awe of God.

Take today and face some of those fears and tell them they may be big, but God is bigger and you WILL overcome.

For those who have been joining me as we have read through Ephesians, we have come to the last chapter, Ephesians 5. I hope you have found new meanings through the book and that God has inspired you with new ideas and directions. Following will be the last lesson of the book followed by all the other lessons you can print up and use again with a study group or for yourself.
