He Has Walked the Mile- The Lord is With Me

“Remember that I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the Lord your God will be with you everywhere you go.” -Joshua 1:9

Have you ever felt like telling someone to walk a mile in your shoes before they start passing judgement or telling you everything you do wrong? Maybe you’ve thought, “If only they knew what I was dealing with they might understand”.

Are you someone who is afraid of the unknown? When you must find a new job, maybe move to a new city or state, maybe go to a new school; do you worry? I am like that, I get comfortable where I am, and change is not something I enjoy. The hardest thing I have is to deal with is driving to unknown or unfamiliar places. I get worried about getting lost and who will I be meeting.

There is good news though. Jeremiah tells us that God is already there. He is God of heaven and God of the earth. There is nowhere we can go that God isn’t already there clearing our path and making the way easier. He also tells us in Matthew 6:27-30 that we don’t have to worry about today or tomorrow, God already has it planned out. I know it’s easier said than done but the more we cling to our Lord and trust Him, the easier it is to let it go. We also can find comfort knowing that even if no one walks in our shoes so no one understands, Jesus has. He was made like us, “fully human in every way” (Heb. 2:17), so He knows what it’s like to live in a human body on this earth. He understands the struggles we face and comes alongside with understanding and encouragement. He’s been through our struggles; He’s faced hardship and just like He clung to His Father for strength we need to cling to Him. No, the world may not understand, but God does. Give Him your life and watch Him perform miracles.

'I am so grateful for a God that allows us to bring all of our emotions to Him. You can take the anger, the sadness, the bitterness, the depression, the loneliness, the confusion and lay it all at His feet. And not only will He not turn away from us, no matter how much we kick and scream, He also understands us and our pain.

Although He’s omnipotent and is greater than our human minds can ever begin to fathom — He gets us. He made us. He knows us. And as if that wasn’t enough, He sent his only son into the world, in flesh form, so that we would know that He gets us. Things can get really dicey for us here on Earth, but no matter what, we have one true Hope that we can cling to. Jesus has walked in our shoes and has promised to be with us wherever we go. No matter if we’re at our darkest hour, weakest moment or things are going good for us. God is with each of us. How can we give any less to Him?' -Katie Bivens- There is Hope

At my lowest- God is my hope. The kids are fighting, maybe you and your spouse are at odds, you feel useless, your job is tanking, you’re strapped to the gills with bills. So many things can take a toll on us, and we can feel really down and low about life in general. God hasn’t left, He’s right by our side telling us to keep our chins up. He gives us hope of better things to come. -Psalm 121:7-8 “The Lord will protect you from all dangers; he will guard your life. The Lord will guard you as you come and go, both now and forever.

At my darkest- God is my light. The world can seem overwhelming at time. So much anger, hate and violence. We can feel unloved or unappreciated in our own homes. There are times we’ve questioned our reason to be alive. Maybe for some they have become bogged down with drinking and partying and can’t pull out of the web they’re in. God has promised to be our light. When we can’t go forward one more step, God will light our path and when we cling to Him, He will pull us out. -John 8:12 “Later, Jesus talked to the people again, saying, “I am the light of the world. The person who follows me will never live in darkness but will have the light that gives life.”

At my weakest- God is my strength. We’re too sick to function we have lost our way and don’t know if we have the strength to resist the temptations before us. We just don’t have any fight left in us. That’s when we can turn to God, give Him our burdens, and lean on Him as our crutch. God promised to be our strength. He will fight whatever battle we need and help us to be strong again, you just need give it all to Him. -Isaiah 41:10 “So don’t worry, because I am with you. Don’t be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you.”

At my saddest- God is my comforter. We all love crawling into our beds and burying ourselves under our comforters. It makes us feel safe and protected. We know there, the world can’t harm us. But there still is sadness. Unexpected deaths, family problems, trouble with rebellious kids and so much more. When we become overwhelmed with sadness we can turn to God. Just like our beds, God is our comforter, and He will make us feel safe. -2 Corinthians 1:3-4 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is the Father who is full of mercy and all comfort. He comforts us every time we have trouble, so when others have trouble, we can comfort them with the same comfort God gives us.”

It seems we only go to God when we our at our lowest and need Him the most but there is one more important thing we need to remember. There will be times we won't be in the pits and things will be going good for us. Hopefully we will have those times more than the bad times. In those times we tend to lean more away from time with Jesus. We neglect our walk with Him because we are happy and not worried. It those times we need to remember God is still walking beside us, He is with us sharing our joys and accomplishments and He is the One who has given them to us. So we need to also remember and cling to-

At my highest- God is with me sharing and rejoicing too. -Zephaniah 3:17 "The Lord your God is with you; the mighty One will save you. He will rejoice over you. You will rest in his love; he will sing and be joyful about you.” James 1:17 "Every good action and every perfect gift is from God. These good gifts come down from the Creator of the sun, moon, and stars, who does not change like their shifting shadows."

Remember that Jesus once walked this earth and KNOWS what you are going through. He has walked in your shoes. You can rest in this assurance and be confident and faithful that He will deliver you from the fire you are facing now. There is nothing that we go through that He cannot heal. Cling to His words and hang on for dear life. He will pull you through because He has been in your shoes.

Whether we “feel” like it or not, we need God with every breath we breathe. We need to be in constant conversation with Him (a.k.a. Prayer), to be dwelling on His ways (a.k.a. reading His Word), and to be seeking His purpose in our daily lives. We need to familiarize ourselves with the whole teaching of Jesus. I have been reading the gospels for most of my life and yet I find new understanding and new truths every time I read them. There is no substitute for reading and meditating on the words of Jesus. If we really want to obey the commands of Jesus we will be searching His Word each day for His direction. We will saturate our minds with His Word. With that in mind we will continue our study through 1 Corinthians reading chapter 8:1-13. There is always a short lesson to help you along with your reading with questions to help you see the verses in a new way or remember, even just reading the words, the Holy Spirit will be with you and help you understand what is being said.
