“Do what God’s teaching says; when you only listen and do nothing, you are fooling yourselves.” -James 1:22
Reading God’s word gives us so much, but the Bible doesn’t tell us to stop there. In James it says we are to do what we learn. Remember the saying ‘actions speak louder than words’. The words we read are wonderful but when we put them in action to do good we become an even greater instrument for God.
When we offer a helping hand expecting nothing in return, offer a listening ear, share a smile we are sharing God’s love to others. We need to learn from Jesus’ example. Only here on earth a brief time He stayed about His Father’s business sharing and doing what the scriptures taught. He talked to everyone, He ate with sinners and rich. He didn’t turn away the sick, He healed them instead. His joy was to see others find peace, happiness and a Savior in God. He helped others expecting nothing back and people found acceptance and saw a love like none other. What better way for us to live except by Jesus’ example.
Yes, there will be times that helping or accepting another person will be hard and times it will be easy. We will have to make hard choices to either spread a little gossip or just walk away. We will be confronted with situations to either react with harsh words or show God’s love in our actions. In those hard times Jesus will give us the extra strength if we ask. Even if we don’t see the earthly results of our good deeds, God knows them, and He has rewards waiting. So, share a smile, offer a hand and let Jesus’ light shine through you. Let your actions speak louder than your words and do what God has asked. Be about your heavenly Father’s business and share Jesus with others.
