“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me.” - Revelation 3:20
I’ve said it before. We live in a world where we’re always on the go. Busy with our children, busy with our jobs, busy with our friends, busy, busy, busy. And now with technology as it is we can become busy watching T.V., playing games on our smart phones and the list goes on. We become too busy being busy.
The problem with becoming “busy” is that we can find ourselves right where the devil wants us. Too busy to find time for God. Then the guilt sets in and we begin to fret, worry, and then reason everything out to make the excuses work. Next we feel we’re not on our knees enough so how can God hear us and we try to set aside time out of our “busy” lives to pray on our knees, which seems to always fail.
The solution is knowing you don’t always have to be on your knees frantically praying to be heard by God. Prayer should be something you’re doing all the time, no matter what you’re doing. Yes quiet times are important, but you can’t always wait until the conditions are perfect or until you’re through this or that.
But in order to hear God you need to quiet yourself, somewhere, somehow, sometime. In other words
–STOP- Be still and know I am God, Psalm 46:10. In quietness and confidence shall be your strength, Isaiah 30:15. How many “quiet times” do you have?
-LOOK- When you’re fretting you’re not trusting. Trusting is a practice of complete rest and peace of mind, heart, and spirit. When you truly trust God you can find peace in the middle of a storm. Once you’ve stopped you can look around you and see how God is speaking to you. Look though the Bible and let God lead you in scripture. Look to nature and see God there. Look around your home and see God’s blessings. Some people have to be in constant motion but if your too “busy” to pray or too “busy” too find time with God you’re too busy. You show your faith by stopping your own activity and waiting for God to work. Study and be quiet, 1 Thessalonians 4:11. Let the earth keep silence before Him, Habakkuk 2:20.
-LISTEN- If we slow things down and listen we will hear God. We will find the peace in the storm. We will find answers to our own questions. We will find time for God and our “busy” lives.
Remember, if you’re hurrying and rushing around or impatient or just too busy, you’ll never be able to focus on the Lord for even five minutes in a day. But if you stop, look, and listen you’ll find out that He’s always been here ready to help you.
Have you found your quiet times today? If not, put down whatever you’re too busy doing and stop, look, and listen.
