“He is my rock and my salvation. He is my defender; I will not be defeated. My honor and salvation come from God. He is my mighty rock and my protection.” -Psalm 62:6-7
You have probably seen the big ships on the waters moving so smoothly across the waters. Maybe you’ve watched as they pull into ports or you’ve been on one yourself. Maybe you’ve been in a smaller boat out on the lake fishing, diving or just relaxing with friends and family. As you have seen these ships and boats, what is the one thing you have noticed each have? Anchors. Anchors come in many shapes and sizes, but all are used for the same purpose. To hold the ship or boat in place so it does not keep moving across the waters, right?
I have not been diving, but I would probably be grateful that my boat didn’t float away while I was under the water. Or when fishing it is nice to be able to stay in one place as the water bobs up and down pushing the boat around. Anchors are meant to keep the boat in one place. When thrown into the water it is so heavy it falls straight to the ground gripping into the dirt below holding whatever it is attached to in place.
And the nice things with an anchor and the big ships out in the open water. When those storms or winds arise, and the waves are rocking the boat all over the place, the anchor holds them in one place keeping them and everyone safe.
There will be times we will face storms and winds in our life that will toss us about. There will be times God will ask us to dive into something that we haven’t done before to help further His work on earth. And, there will be times we will be fishers of men and probably will face adversity as we share the good news of Jesus.
But we have something promised to us, and anchor. Jesus is our solid Rock and when we attach ourselves to Him, He is our anchor. Strong enough to hold us in place as we face this world. No matter what we come across as we share the good news and what Jesus has done in our lives, no matter the storms Satan throws our way. In times like those we have an anchor when we cling to Jesus. When we spend time reading the Bible and in prayer. When we build that relationship with Jesus, we can be very sure our Anchor holds, Jesus our solid Rock.
There is a hymn that comes to mind when I think about God as our anchor. The three verses tell us the best way to know Jesus our anchor. Here is the first verse and chorus, for the rest of the song click the link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bHe5Lpz4aU
In times like these you need a Savior,
In times like these you need an anchor;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
This Rock is Jesus, Yes He's the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
