The Palm of His Hands

John 10:28 "I give them eternal life, and they will never die, and no one can steal them out of my hand."

Have you ever held a baby animal or maybe an injured bird? You would never squeeze the poor thing or toss it around like a football. You are gentle and move slowly as you cradle the animal in the palm of your hand. What about a baby or even children as they grow? When their little you gently stroke their cheeks, you cradle their head. You are very loving with every move. As children grow, especially your own, your hands are gentle to them as you lovingly pick them up, rub their backs, play with their hair, heal the boo-boos. What about your elderly grandparents or even your parents? Each gentle touch shows how much you love them. With your spouse you hold hands, you lovingly show your love to each other through those small gestures of a gentle touch. How you choose to use your hands when interacting with people and animals can be very powerful. Your hands can hold such deep love and comfort, or they could be used in very unloving ways. What do the palms of your hands tell others about who you are?

Let's look at some verses that tell us who Jesus is with the palms of His hands. Isaiah 41:10 & 13, “So don't worry, because I am with you. Don't be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you. I am the Lord your God, who holds your right hand and I tell you, ‘Don't be afraid. I will help you.’”

Psalm 139:10 “… with your right hand you would hold me.”

1 Peter 5:6 “Be humble under God's powerful hand so He will lift you up when the right time comes.”

Isaiah 46:4 NLT “I will be your God throughout your lifetime- until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.”

Such encouraging verses let me know that God holds my hand, leading me through each day and each activity. He takes my hands in the palm of His hand and shows His love to me as He is with me. Knowing God's hands show such love to me I want to echo His example as I hold my husband's hand in love, care for my children and take care of them keeping them away from harm, show love to the elderly with a gentle embrace or hand of support. I want to care for my animals in gentle loving ways. With the palms of my hands, I want to show the same ways to love, that God has shown to me.

Perhaps the most beautiful picture of God's love is given to us in Isaiah 49:16 “See, I have engraved your name on the palms of my hands.”

Not only are we God’s creation but we are important enough that Jesus engraved our name in His hands. His hands are gentle, He treats all mankind with a gentle touch so we can be assured that in God's hands we will be protected and safe. The gentleness we use with small animals, our children, our family, God uses the same with us. The security we have, or our children have cradled in the hands of loved ones, we have in Jesus.

What Jesus endured on the cross, the nails etching our name forever with Him gives me the assurance of His protection of power and I can confidently place my hand in His, knowing His love is deeper for me than anything or anyone can give. I am His, I am loved, and I am etched permanently in His heart and in His hands.

1. When the storms are raging I'll not be afraid. God holds me in the palm of His hand. When my ship is drifting and the sails are frayed, God holds me in the palm of his hand. (chorus) *Thank God, thank God, He's a refuge, a shelter from the storm, a firm foundation upon which I stand, thank God, thank God, I'm in the palm of His hand.* 2. Though the world may crumble I'll still praise His name, God holds me in the palm of His hand. I'll shout it from the mountains, I'll not be ashamed, God holds me in the palm of his hands. Tag: (Now I know He is mine, and I'm His forever. He's leading me on life's way, He's a firm foundation upon which I stand, thank God, thank God, I'm in the palm of His hand, HIS HAND!!

I very much believe in the power of music and words when you can hear the words and the music just enough to make the song great. Many Christian songs and hymns were written to move anyone with the words and notes played. With that being said ever so often I will add a song with the lyrics that have moved me and goes along with the blog. Today I am sharing a song I found while putting this together called In the Palm of His Hands. The lyrics are here and there is a link you can go to if you want to hear the music.

1. Once I had a heavy burden, I was sinking down.

I was underneath my circumstance, I was losing ground.

Then I gave it all to Jesus, and He reached way down

Then He lifted me up, with a heavenly touch

In the palm of His hand.

Chorus- In the palm of His hand, no safer place could I ever be.

In the palm of His hand, I'm ever sheltered.

I will not worry, I will not fear

Protected by the One who holds me near

In the palm of His hand, His mighty hand

In the palm of His hand.

2. Do you have a heavy burden, from the cares of life?

Are you searching for the answers... to all your troubles and strife?

Just remember He has promised, if you trust in Him

He will carry you through, He's the one who can

In the palm of His hand.

Chorus- In the palm of His hand, no safer place could I ever be.

In the palm of His hand, I'm ever sheltered.

I will not worry, I will not fear

Protected by the One who holds me near

In the palm of His hand, His mighty hand

In the palm of His hand.
