Ephesians 2:10, "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago"

What are some places in your state that you think make your state special? If I were to visit, where would you advise me is a, ‘must see’, while I’m there?
Here in Michigan, we are blessed to have many places to direct visitors to for a great vacation. I've lived here almost forty years and there are many places we have yet to make it to. Michigan is quite unique, surrounded by five Great Lakes, and our state is divided into upper and lower Michigan. I could list many natural wonders Michigan has, as well as many man-made wonders to visit. Take a moment and reflect on your state where you live that you might call a wonder to behold.
One day teacher asked her students to list what they thought were the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’. So, in your mind I'll ask you the same thing. The encyclopedia has come up with a list too. Let's see how many we can match.
1. The Grand Canyon. 2. The Empire State Building. 3. The Panama Canal. 4. The great Pyramids of Egypt. 5. The Taj Mahal. 6. St. Peter’s Basilica. 7. The Great Wall of China.
Perhaps you may have thought of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, or the Eiffel Tower. There is the Leaning Tower of Pisa, even the Sistine Chapel. Mount Everest, the natural tunnel in Virginia, Mount Rushmore, the giant sequoias in California. Oh, the list could go on.
Have you had a chance to see any of these? Are there any you want to go visit?
It's interesting where our minds take us when asked a simple question. List the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’. Continuing with our story and the students. There was one student who sat silently when the students were asked to read their lists. With much encouragement the boy finally read his list to the class.
1. To see. 2. To hear. 3. To touch. 4. To taste… the boy paused then continued. 5. To smell. 6. To love. 7. To laugh.
It was no surprise when the classroom fell silent. All the students were right in their ideas, but I think the little boy had the right idea. The world has many wonders to see and be in awe of. But the abilities God has given us as someone created in His image are truly seven wonders to behold.
It is the smallest things we tend to overlook. To be able to watch a sunrise or sunset. Hear the beautiful sound of the chirping birds or smell the crackling fire or fresh cut grass. To taste delicious baked goods or juicy apples. Every morning you wake up, walk, or your hands can hold newborn babies or animals. Not everyone can use all their senses, but they are still God's creation given to each one of us. The ability God has blessed us with are a wonder to enjoy. So, let us enjoy each day the Lord has given us.
As for numbers seven and eight, to love and laugh. In a world of darkness and sorrow love and laughter can bring rainbows to our life. Even Proverbs tells us laughter is good medicine and can bring healing.
There are so many ways to love and to feel loved, it is also good for our hearts. Allowing Jesus to live in our lives can fill us with love, and then we have the chance to share that love with others.
Although visiting places around the world may be cool and I enjoy going around my state to see the many places of interest. The little boy's list is a gentle reminder that the most precious things in life are the gifts God has given us. These cannot be bought for any price and can fill our life with great joy.
